GALLERY: Trinity High School

The gallery that I attended was at Trinity High School. The artist's name was Grace Cortina. She had many pieces but my favorite was the one in the lower left hand corner called "The Black Hole." I talked with Grace about her piece and she told me that the reason why she titled it "The Black Hole" was because many teens abuse substances and this has a negative effect on them physically and emotionally. Choosing to abuse these substances leads them to what Grace calls "The Black Hole." In her own words, "You don't know where you are going to end up, but you know its not good." The piece was created using oil pastels on canvas. The message she wanted to get through is that teens and even adults should not abuse these substances, or there will be negative consequences. The main thing she wanted people to notice was the black hole and that is why she made it the darkest and in the center of the piece. All of the objects were secondary and she chose reds, blues, and some dark green hues and laid it all out in a tornado effect on the piece. She told me that she enjoyed working with the oil pastels because it was very easy to blend and get the right hue or shade for her composition. She chose the layout because she thought it looked like the black hole was sucking all of the substances and taking them away to a dark place.

Week 15- Film

For this week, we watched the film "Exit Through the Gift Shop" in class. It was a very odd "film" if you could call it that. It chronicalled the lives of a few street artists, the most famous being Banksy. It was basically a film being created while shooting a film-if that makes sense. Basically this guy who calls himself "Mr. Brainwash" tries to locate Banksy and follow him. Ironically, this ends up happening and they somewhat become friends. One of the arguments in this movie is that "Mr. Brainwash" is just a phenomenon who copies off of the more well-known street artists. I personally side with Banksy and believe that "Mr. Brainwash" is just a sick individual. He seems to have multiple mental and personality disorders. I feel that Banksy is legitimate and I completely side with him. I like a lot of Banksy's street art and I feel that he was a better filmmaker than Mr. Brainwash. My personal opinion is that Mr. Brainwash should stop copying off of people and get inspired by something other than other artists in that street arm realm.

Week 9- Warhol

Craft: These images were made on the iPad app Brushes. I had to use multiple layers, hues, brush strokes, brush sizes, and colors to get the completed piece.

Concept; These are pictures of my classmates that I put my own twist on, using Warhol as my inspiration.

Composition: I am going to describe image 2. I wanted people to see was her face. That is why I made it grayscale. The second thing I wanted people to notice was her hair, so that is why i made it red. The last thing that I wanted people to notice were her clothes and background, so I kept them red and just used different hues & saturations of red.

Week 7- Eyes Only

Craft: I made this using the iPad app Brushes. I used multiple layers and brushes to create the look.

Concept: We had to find a picture of someone and only use their eyes.I chose Marilyn Monroe. I used a Bane mask from the Dark Knight movie to add to her face.

Composition: The first thing that I wanted people to see were her eyes. That is why I kept them original. The second thing that I wanted people to see was the Bane mask. That is why I had it take up most of her face. The last thing that I wanted people to see was the rest of her face and the background. That is why I kept it grayscale and black.

Week 13- Photoshoot 2 "10 Steps to Applying Makeup"

I was instructed to reshoot by Makeup Shoot using better lighting and showing my makeup utensils. The lighting is front lighting. I wanted it to look more like a flowy process over a snapshot.
